If He Can Get a Date, Why Is He Paying for an Escort?

Why Some Men Choose Escorts Instead of Dating
There is a persistent assumption about men who book escorts: they do it because they cannot meet women any other way. It is an easy explanation. It is also clearly inadequate.
Escort clients include men who are confident, successful and sociable. Some are perfectly capable of getting dates. Some have had long relationships or marriages. Others have busy social lives and spend plenty of time around women.
So why would a man who could date choose to pay for an escort instead? Perhaps the more interesting question is what a professional arrangement provides that dating doesn't.
What If Money Isn't His Scarce Resource?
For some men, the problem may not be finding somebody attractive. It is finding the time and inclination for everything surrounding conventional dating. Dating can involve apps, messages, arranging meetings, cancelled plans, several dates before knowing whether two people are compatible and uncertainty about what each person wants afterwards. Some people enjoy that process. Others don't.
A businessman spending two nights in London might have absolutely no interest in swiping through dating apps hoping to arrange something before he flies home. For somebody in that position, paying for professional companionship isn't necessarily a substitute for being able to get a date.
It may be a substitute for spending his limited time trying to arrange one.
Perhaps Certainty Is Part of What He's Buying
Dating contains ambiguity. Does she like me? Is this going anywhere? Who should message next? Does accepting dinner create expectations? Are we looking for the same thing? An escort booking starts from a completely different position.
Both people understand why they are meeting. The time has been arranged, the fee is known and there is no automatic expectation that the encounter must develop into a conventional relationship. That clarity may itself have value.
In fact, paying can remove some of the uncertainty that exists when money isn't explicitly involved. That doesn't make an escort appointment emotionless or impersonal. Two people can still talk, laugh, flirt and genuinely enjoy one another's company. It simply means the framework around their meeting is understood.
Not Everybody Wants Another Relationship
Consider somebody who has recently come out of a long marriage. He may eventually want another relationship. He may also think the idea sounds exhausting. There are periods in people's lives when they enjoy companionship but don't particularly want their life entwined with somebody else's.
The same can apply to someone who travels constantly, works extremely long hours or simply values independence. Professional companionship allows two people to enjoy time together without pretending that the meeting necessarily represents the beginning of something else. For some clients, that distinction may be exactly what appeals.
What About Choice?
We cannot rule out basic human attraction. Someone may want to date a more exotic or otherwise interesting woman, but the options to meet someone from another culture and pursue a dating relationship with them may be difficult. At Babylon Girls a client can book companionship with a Russian escort for example, or a woman from South America, China, Japan, and all across Europe! That’s a large “dating pool”.
What About Loneliness?
Loneliness undoubtedly forms part of the public conversation about men and escorts, but it shouldn't become a convenient explanation for every client. A person can have friends, colleagues and family and still occasionally want a different kind of company.
Equally, wanting female companionship doesn't necessarily mean somebody is deeply lonely. Sometimes a man may simply want to have dinner with an attractive woman, enjoy an evening together and return to his ordinary life afterwards.
Human motivations don't always need to reveal a hidden psychological problem. Sometimes people do things because they enjoy them.
Isn't It Just About Sex?
Sometimes sex may be a major motivation. Pretending otherwise would make little sense when discussing escorting. A client may be interested in spending time with someone more sexually liberated, like an escort who enjoys fetish play or some other kinks or preferences.
But it doesn't explain every booking. If sex were the only consideration, dinner dates, extended appointments and overnight companionship would be difficult to explain. The time surrounding intimacy can be part of what somebody is choosing to pay for: conversation, flirting, dressing up, having dinner, sharing drinks and enjoying somebody's attention.
Different clients value those things differently. And the same client may want completely different experiences on different occasions.
Does Paying Make the Connection Fake?
This is where the subject becomes more complicated. An escort is being paid for her time. That fact shouldn't be disguised. But does payment mean every conversation, laugh or moment of affection during an appointment must therefore be artificial?
Not necessarily.
People routinely have genuine human interactions within professional relationships. A bartender can genuinely enjoy talking to a regular customer. A personal trainer can genuinely like a client. A hairdresser can look forward to seeing somebody whose company they enjoy. The fact that one person is working doesn't automatically make every emotion displayed during that time false.
However, the opposite assumption can also cause problems. If an escort genuinely enjoys a client's company, that doesn't mean the professional nature of their relationship has secretly disappeared. Both things can be true at once.
Maybe We're Asking the Wrong Question
Perhaps asking why a man pays for an escort when he could get a date assumes that dating and escorting are competing versions of the same thing. They aren't necessarily. A date contains possibilities and uncertainties that some people actively want. It might become a relationship, lead nowhere or develop into something neither person expected.
Professional companionship offers something different: an arrangement with much clearer parameters. Some men may choose one at a particular stage of their lives and the other at another. Some may participate in both.
And some probably have reasons that don't fit neatly into either category. Perhaps an older man may desire the energy provided by a teenage London escort for example. So when a confident, successful man books an escort, the explanation doesn't have to be that he couldn't persuade somebody to date him. Perhaps he simply wasn't looking for a date.
